La Santa is known for its great surf spots in Lanzarote. Here are some popular spots on the West coast:
- El Quemao: Often compared to Pipeline in Hawaii and home to the annual Billabong Quemao Class surf competition, this world-renowned left-hand reef break is known for its heavy barrels on big swells and SE winds. It's only recommended for advanced surfers due to its challenging conditions, shallow lava rock reef and powerful barrelling waves.
- The Right or Morro Negro: A right hand reef break that works best on a low to mid tide with a north swell. It's a powerful right-hand point break wave that's suitable for intermediate to advanced surfers.
- La Santa Bay: The reform break in front of the village of La Santa offers fun and consistent waves, making it suitable for all levels of surfers. It's a great spot for beginners to learn to ride reef breaks, and for more experienced surfers to hone their skills.
- The Left or The Slab: A barreling slab breaking over a shallow reef that produces insane barrels and is very popular with both stand up and bodyboarders looking to get magazine worthy pictures.
- Playa de Famara: One of the most popular surf spots in Lanzarote, it's a long sandy beach that offers both left and right-hand waves, and can hold swells of up to 2.5 meters. It's suitable for all levels of surfers, with different sections catering to beginners, intermediates, and advanced surfers. Famara is a go to place for those looking to learn to surf and hang out with the surf community which dominates the down.
- San Juan: A reef break that works best on a north swell, it's a powerful long left-hand and much shorter right hand wave that's suitable for intermediate to advanced surfers. It's located just south of Famara and can get crowded during peak season. There's a small take off area so be respectful to locals or you may get a 'talking to'.
